The Significance of a Toothbrush

Filed under: Life — Camera Dave @ 7:13 am

You’re a pink toothbrush, I’m a blue toothbrush,
Have we met somewhere before?
You’re a pink toothbrush, and I think toothbrush,
That we met by the bathroom door.

Glad to meet toothbrush such a sweet toothbrush,
How you thrill me through and through,
Don’t be hard toothbrush on a soft toothbrush,
‘Cos I can’t help loving you.

There are significant things that happen in relationships; first kiss, meeting the parents, moving in together, etc and today has kind of seen a similar thing happen between myself and my significant other, Beula.

I now have a toothbrush kept at hers, soon it’ll be underwear although if that happens she can start doing my washing. Traditionally it is a bit of a bigthing in some ways as implies the personal spaces of a couple are mingling and to be honest it is quite handy as I seem to be spending a lot of time there at the moment. (At her insistence of course)

But it did make me think although it is still early days it is now over two and a half months since we met and were found snogging in a resticted area by my boss and despite a few ups and downs it is going along quite nicely. She certainly has no cause for complaint as everytime she stays at mine she gets breakfast in bed, although I don’t get the same treatment I hasten to add.

Still we seem to be getting into a comfort zone with each other, which basically means if I sleep in her bed I get 1/8 of the space, despite being twice her size and I have to admit in some ways it is nice, especially the being served crumpets whilst writing this, although for the record can I have more butter on them next time Beula.

Still all in all despite her tantrums, the crumpets make up for it.

The Application Is Underway

Filed under: JET, Life — Camera Dave @ 7:10 am

At the moment I am applying for the Jet Programme in order to go to Japan for a year as an assistant English teacher.  I successfully applied for this last year, however circumstances caused me to turn it down as at that point in time I was in danger of failing my degree due to being a warden in student accommodation.  Ultimately I did fail a couple of modules and although I did not fail the degree because I had pulled out of the JET Programme I elected to spend another year at UWE to earn the honours for my degree.

Now however I am waiting to hear from them to see if I have been successful this year as well, I had my interview back in early February at the Japanese Embassy and like everyone else have to wait for a letter to arrive in April.  One advantage I have this year is knowing how much waiting is involved first from application to interview and then from interview to acceptance although I don’t know much beyond that to be fair, still I imagine I will know soon enough.

Hitting The Campaign Trail

Filed under: Life — Camera Dave @ 7:07 am

Well the annual event of the elections has come around at my Student Union has come around again, this year has seen a change of constitution and a President recently removed in a vote of no confidence so it promises to be an interesting campaign, will people be put off by the recent dirty face of union politics or will it encourage them to get involved and change it for the better?

For me running for this position has torn me as I really want to do it and if I do get eleced I will do my best to do a decent job and put 100% into it, however it would man putting off my plans with the JET scheme for at least another year. It is worth it however I feel and at least I always have JET (hopefully) if I am not elected.

The activities position has a wide remit encompassing entertainments, media, the halls rep system, campaigns and many other areas and as such it is a massive job and not one I seek to undertake lightly, indeed the level of commitment required is one of the reason I am running as I believe I will offer that level of commitment, that having been said having seen some of the other candidates running if I do lose to them I won’t be too disappointed for although the strengths of the candiates varies they would still do a solid job overall.

The line up for the positions and their manifestos can be read here. Also the debate around the elections can be read on the UWESU forums, it has only been a couple of days and already some discussion has started on there mainly focusing on entertainments at the moment though.

This weekend I am planning to relax before it all starts in earnest, although I have to get some work done such as prepping a more detailed manifesto and designing some of the posters that will shortly be dotted around the uni, although hopefully the word spreading I have been doing already will pay off as well, along with some of my other tactics planned over the next couple of weeks. Still less than two weeks until it is all over and the results will be known and I will know if I am in Bristol for a little longer.

First Post

Filed under: Life — Camera Dave @ 7:04 am

Welcome to my website, it has taken me a while to get it here but now here it is in it current glory. At the moment it is looking a little sparse I’ll admit but it is still a bit of a work in progress whilst I work out how to do everything I want to, but bear with me and hopefully you’ll find it worth it.

Currently I am in the process of running in the 2006 UWESU Elections for the position of Activities Officer, but am also awaiting to hear from the Japanese government to see if I have a job in Japan as an Assistant Teacher of English on the JET Scheme. So it is all good fun and my future is up in the air and this website is meant to document my thoughts as all this progresses.

It’s not ideal and has a way to go yet, but I will pick it up as I go along I hope.
