Thank You Very Much…

Filed under: Colour, Life, POTD, Things — Camera Dave @ 10:57 am

Thank you girls, can we do it again sometime?

Last week the girlfriend was back home for reading week and so although I usually stay at hers I obviously couldn’t do that this time and as I had learned a few days previously sleeping in an open air train station isn’t really a viable option.

So instead it was time to make a phone call to a couple of friends and see who was inclined to be generous and offer me a floor for the night. Ultimately I was offered some chairs in a kitchen to sleep on and knowing how comfy the chairs in Glamorgan Court* are I readily accepted the offer.

I was also invited to come around before the event and drop my stuff off….

Then of course as everyone else was warming up for the night by playing drinking games I didn’t want to be boring and I joined in with the drinking, after all I only volunteer to do photography at Score! and I have always been allowed to have a couple of drinks whilst working in clubs, although most of the time I stay completely sober.

It’s safe to say that I got reasonably drunk (there is video evidence to prove this statement which was thoughtfully sent to my phone) before I went to Score! Luckily, coming close to my 100,000th photo in clubs taking photos is close to instinctive for me as judging by the photos from the night alcohol doesn’t impair my photographic abilities (and it doesn’t impair my driving abilities either, but then again I can’t drive sober.)

The night itself as ever was a bit of a blur as I spent most of it running around, but thanks to the ladies of one of the flats in K block I had great evening and so I thank you for that.  Any chance of doing it again sometime? I promise not to fall asleep whilst talking to you in the kitchen afterwards this time.

*But this comes from a someone whos spends two nights a week in his own bed and regularly sleeps on floors, or just skips sleep altogether.

Ironic Mistake

An advert with an ironic mistake

Whilst my housemates and I were househunting we did wind up walking the streets of Bristol and that was when we noticed the above image as part of an advertisement for a shopping centre.  What we also noticed however and isn’t obvios from the image above is that the photo had been reversed leading to a rather ironic mistake being made in the image. It’s not really visible in the image above so here’s a close up of the mistake:

Knowledge ≠ Power

At the weekend I left my sleeping bag under a desk at work where it was discovered by a colleague today, which prompted various witty comments about sleeping under desks - My witty rejoinder was that whilst I am ‘happy’ to sleep in a train station when my working day is over I can’t wait to get the hell out of Dodge.

My boss however expressed wonderment at my ability to get a sleeping bag back into it’s bag and I commented that it’s not that hard as all you have to do is, “fold it in half and roll it up, squeezing out the air as you go.”

My boss as a defence for their ineptitude replied by saying, “But mine is pink with stripes…”

And that of course ladies and gentleman makes a BIG difference to a sleeping bag.

Everyday Should Be Special

Valentines Day - It's all about the display.

This was the photo I planned to use for Valentine’s Day, but due to minor things like not having regular internet access like the best laid plan of a mouse that plan went astray.

Personally I cannot stand the hypocracy of Valentine’s Day after all what is that point of saying “I love you” or giving a gift just because it’s expected of you? - Although of course as my girlfriend didn’t expect me to get anything I could get her something as a surprise and not be a hypocrite.

Top Gear And Not Having A Car

Filed under: Life, Random — Camera Dave @ 10:51 pm

When I was younger I used to suffer from dizzy spells where I would become disorientated, lose my vision and on a couple of occasions I collapsed to the ground.  The doctors didn’t know what caused it, but did tell me that I was, “safe to drive” and to this day I am worried just how many other people that doctor said that to.

As a result of this I still cannot drive as although I don’t get the dizzy spells any more I don’t have the time or money currently to learn to drive and get a car* and I have next to no interest in cars, although I have to conceed that they certainly are better than public transport.

Despite all of this though there is one programme I love to watch on TV and it’s one of the few I try to see regularly and I time my breaks on a Sunday night at work so that I can see it and what is this programme? Top Gear.

I don’t drive, I do think that most car owners forget that they also have legs and I don’t really see the point in buying a car that will do 200mph when the speed limit is 70mph.  I remember at school when people started getting cars I was considered even stranger just because I’d walk 6 miles to see a friend or cycle 20 to see my girlfriend. To this day I love to walk and if I have the time and it’s not raining I’d pick it as my mode of transport every time.

I know I’ll never be buying the cars they show, although I have to admit a couple of them are quite tempting, so just what is it about Top Gear that is so entrancing?

I think last week’s episode sums it up in a nutshell, after all on what other show would you see an attempt to turn a Robin Reliant into a space shuttle? (Other than Scrapheap Challenge perhaps) I say attempt as I only saw the first half of the show as my break at work wasn’t long enough to see it all and I only say the build up and the signs weren’t good as although they could get it up, the model they’d built came down almost as fast.**

It’s fun TV, yes it’s all for show I know but it’s enthusiastic, it’s silly and I probably watch it for exactly the same reason as I regularly read Jeremy Clarkson’s column in the Sunday Times it’s silly, it’s overblown and not to be taken seriously, but at heart it knows that it is exactly that and revels in it. If only all silly and overblown things were so self aware.

*Although I have a cunning plan of doing an intensive course at some point and getting a motorbike licence after all motorbikes are cheaper and cooler than cars!

**Can anyone tell me what happened?

Climax Lock & Key Party

Climax Lock and Key Party - 24th February

Last night saw Climax have a ‘Lock and Key’ Party and unlike last weeks photos, this weeks photos are up in more like seven hours rather than 7 days…

The only disappointment of the night for me was not finding a girl with the key to my lock - although to be fair all it would have meant was that the girl would have won some cheap tat, anything else and my girlfriend would have killed me!
