A couple of weeks ago I was taken by a friend to a gig at the Colston Hall in Bristol (where Steven Seagal is appearing on Friday apparently) to see Scott Matthews + Special Guests.
The special guest in question was Emmy the Great who according to her her website, “writes songs for her friends. Her friends are all double crossing liars, and some of them are dead.” To me however she was good enough for me to pick up her CD from the stall outside before leaving in a rush to head to Glamorgan and work.
My favourite track probably has to be ‘My Party Is Better Than Yours’ a track I found myself singing under my breath all day at work due to the catchiness of lyrics such as:
I’m having a party and I hope that you know this,
Spend Friday alone and pretend not to notice.
All of the stupid things you’ve done,
I know and I’m telling everyone,
‘Cos you’re not my best friend anymore.
