100% Beef? Hmmm….

The front of the Birdseye packaging for their quarter pounders

After all the brain power exerted today to make things work the way I wanted to I decided that I need to clog my arteries up a bit as a reward and so opted to have a couple of burgers for the first time in a long time - Handily I had picked some up that last time I went shopping as they were on offer…

As you might notice from the photo above they make a big thing about how they are not only 100% beef, but 100% British beef. Now I don’t have any problem with their claim that the beef is 100% British, but when I was cooking them I  noticed the ingredients list, which would suggest that their claim on the front of the box about being 100% beef is less than accurate.

The Collar And Cuffs Match At Last!

Filed under: Random — Camera Dave @ 11:28 pm

It’s taken me ages both to get round to doing it and to actually get it done today, but not only does my site have a new look the galleries match as well - Something I have wanted since I started with this site and haven’t got round to doing over the last year when I moved over to Wordpress.

It’s still not finished yet and I know there are a few problems with it, but as I have some time off coming up I might get round to fixing those niggles sooner rather than later - If you notice anything major broken let me know.

I’ve already had one person tell me that it looks, “too rich and serious” to be my site, so feel free to let me know what you think of the design in General as well.

Emma Pollock Performing At The Thekla

Filed under: Bands, Colour — Camera Dave @ 11:52 pm

Emma Pollock formerly of the Delgados at performing at the Thekla.

Although I was at the Thekla on Monday to see Emmy the Great, the headline act was actually Emma Pollock who is currently promoting a single that came out on Monday with an album to follow later this year. Unfortunately for her Emmy was a hard act to follow, (esp after the invite to London she offered me) and whilst she wasn’t bad by any stretch my evening had already crescendoed. To judge for yourself go and listen to the tracks on her site - I recommend ‘Adrenaline‘ as the one particularly worth a listen.

As to the strange angle of the photo, one of the great things about the Thekla I have discovered is a balcony section where you can get right round above the stage on either side, which along with the abundant lighting (when they use it) is another reason to like the Thekla.

My Advice - Kick Him Really Hard!

Filed under: Random — Camera Dave @ 6:56 pm

The Metro and others today are reporting of police in Ontario investigating a masochist roaming the streets - I say a masochist as you’d have to enjoy pain to go around the streets asking women to kick you in the nuts.

Apparently three incidents have been reported over the last two months (although none of the articles I have seen have stated if the woman have obliged the man’s request). My favourite report though about this story came from the English edition of Pravda, where the story observes that, “None of the women [have] reported injuries”.

Police are concerned it may be a precursor to a sexual assault. Though frankly, if a woman obliges him and does it hard enough I suspect he’d be hard pressed to assault anyone sexually or otherwise!

Emmy (Is) The Great(est)

Filed under: Bands, Black and White, Life, Portraits — Camera Dave @ 8:13 am

Emma the Great at the Thekla in Bristol last night.

This weeks hotly anticipated act for me at least was Emmy the Great, unlike most of the acts I have seen recently I have seen her before when she supported Scott Matthews at the Colston Hall and so I knew exactly was I was going to be getting.

Her set for me was marred by only two things it was too short and some idiots up in the balcony section of the Thekla spent most of her set chatting and laughing loudly. On the plus side however the lighting was in plentiful supply, so hopefully when I go through the many photos I took there will be some nice ones from the night.

After her set Emmy came front of house to watch Emma Pollock; the act she was supporting and after hearing someone saying to a friend, “You should go over and say Hi then.” I decided to head them off at the pass and go over and chat to her myself.

We had a little chat and I mentioned how I had come along to see her because I had seen her previously and how I was a little disappointed that she hadn’t put my favourite tracks into her set,* although I did say it was nice to hear her new stuff as over half of her set was new material (to me at least).

I then did my obligatory thing of offering to send the best of the photos I had taken to her, which she said she would most appreciate and then she made my night by saying that she had a small launch up in London in about 6 weeks for an EP and that if I sent her an email I’d find myself with an invite to it.

Anyways if you are reading this visit her MySpace now and have a listen to her, although you won’t get to hear my favourite tracks of hers unfortunately.
