A Nice Hoax Call!?!

Filed under: Life — Camera Dave @ 8:45 pm

Another Sunday, another day on hoax central and thanks to a combination of people skiving off and it being a Bank Holiday it’s been a busy day.

Now usually I hate all calls to this line, as it’s either a hoax or properly serious, but today I had the exception that proves the rule - I had a call I actually enjoyed and it was a hoax.  It went a little something like this:

Me: Welcome to Hoax Central, hit me with your best hoax or if it’s actually a serious call how can I help?*

Them: How are you?

Me: I’m fine. How can I help you?

Them: I wasn’t calling for help, I was just calling to see how you were.

Me: Well thank you for asking I’m a lot better than the weather outside.

Them: It’s raining where you are then?

Me: Yup!

Them: Well it’s good to hear that you are well. Have a nice day.

Me: And you enjoy yours as well.

Obviously it hasn’t all been as nice as this though for example I had one caler phone up to tell me that I was, “sad and had no friends”. Unfortunately they hung up before I could point out to them that I wasn’t the one making hoax calls on a Sunday night.

*Obviously this is paraphrasing the greeting for hoax central.

Cheers Christina!

Christina from Glamorgan University with an empty glass for once.

This photo is a rare one of Christina for whilst she usually looks this happy I’ve never seen her with an empty glass before!

New Acts In The Galleries

Filed under: Life — Camera Dave @ 8:08 am

When I came up with the idea of the “To Do List” at the beginning of the month the idea was to stop me doing overtime at work and get out more with my camera and whilst I haven’t ventured to the Bath events that I had planned to attend I have still managed to attend four live music events in the last two weeks and after work today, I am off to see a lot more at the Dot To Dot festival in Bristol.*

So far I have taken more photos than I care to count and until now only a handful have been put up here, however I’ve finally got organised enough to add some photos into the galleries - They represent only a fraction of the photos I have taken, but in such awkward conditions they can’t all turn out well.

Here are the links:

I also have photos from Kate Walsh’s performance earlier this week to add, but I haven’t had a chance to sort those photos out yet.

*Well it was that or go to the Chippenham Folk Festival as originally planned.

Bonde Do Role At The Thekla

Filed under: Bands, Black and White — Camera Dave @ 6:45 pm
Marina, lead singer of Bonde Do Role having some fun with an audience member.

Last night I got to go to one of the events I have been anticipating since I created my list of gigs to go to a few weeks back. Never mind I didn’t realise until after buying the tickets that it was a late night show (their set didn’t start until midnight) and I had work the next day - I didn’t care as Bonde Do Role judging by their MySpace were well worth staying up for.

After seeing the show I was even more pleased I’d stayed out for them, so much so I even had my photo taken with the lead singer, although the photo is so awful I don’t know if I will ever let it see the light of day. Instead here’s the video of their single due out shortly, courtesy of Domino Records and YouTube.

The H.M.S. Veggie Sausage

Filed under: Black and White, Things — Camera Dave @ 9:58 pm
The HMS Veggie Burger or HMS Quorn as she is more properly known.

As I mentioned the other day the H.M.S. Quorn was berthed in Bristol next to the Arnolfini for some reason and whilst I may not have known why it was there I was able to take advantage of the tail end of a talk being given by one of the crew to some school children - between that and Wikipedia I can tell you a few things about the H.M.S. Quorn, such as;

  • It’s the third ship in the navy to bear the name and the thirteenth and last last ship in the Hunt class and it’s purpose is as a mine countermeasure.
  • It and it’s fellow Hunt class members are the largest warships built of glass reinforced plastic.
  • And although the link wikipedia gives as reference is dead apparently it’s sonar can detect and classify an object the size of a football at a range of up to 1,000 metres.
  • As well as divers they have two remote control submarines for disposing of mines.

As to the name looking at the names of other vessels in it’s class the inspiration is from UK towns rather than vegetarian products.

Still Steaming Along In Bristol

Still Steaming along in Bristol

The Age of Steam for the most part may be dead, but it’s still puffing along with the odd special train coming into temple Meads, such as this one that I saw unexpectedly about a week ago when walking home.
