And I mean the band not the fact you have to take your own photos.
When I and my housemate saw Self Service recently, they made us think of another band as soon as we saw them - Gossip.
The band are obviously aware of the similarity themselves and play up to it and in doing so make a massive mistake covering one of said band’s songs and in the words of my housemate, “not doing it justice”. Personally I felt it wasn’t too bad, it was just a bit obvious for them to do it - I have to give them credit though they did know what they were doing and I managed to get some great photos of them, which of course automatically puts them in my good books.

…But this guy can play the bass on the hop.
*And it’s only three because of the open chord.

And here are 2/3s of them, although being the band naturally they weren’t as well lit as Sally-Anne Langton. Thisbeing the Louisiana with it’s amazingly high levels of lighting means that the they are almost in darkness, as they don’t even light the centre of the stage up that much - It’s probably for atmosphere if you as k them, although if you ask me it’s probably because they haven’t got much room for lights, let alone the 120 people that apparently they have capacity for!

It’s great seeing four bands at one gig as if nothing else it gives me enough photos for a week on here, which is just as well as I haven’t really been out and about with my camera that much of late - Something I am planning on doing something about.
Here’s a photo of Sally-Anne Langton, the second act from Thursday night, who amongst other things was indirectly responsible for me being there. As the week before whilst staving off boredom I decided t see what events were listed in Bristol over the coming month on Facebook and seeing the gig advertised by her on Facebook. This reminded me how I hadn’t been to a gig for a while and how I should do something about that.

With A Day At The Races, who were the first of four acts performing at my first gig of the year last night. It was a very mixed bag to be honest and whilst it wasn’t a bad night out it did leave both myself and housemate and fellow gig goer a little unsatisfied, as nothing really hit the spot - Although looking at the photos it certainly looks like it was a good night, as I got some very nice results which I will no doubt be putting up here shortly.
A random fact about them is that their bassist lives round the corner from me - I only know this because traveling home on the bus (after waiting nearly an hour and a half for one to arrive) he was on it and got off at the stop before me.

A week ago during the afternoon I got a txt asking me if I was free that evening to do some photos for a band I knew nothing about, other than a friend of mine was their sound engineer and that was why I was getting the call - I am the closest thing to a photographer he knows.
As well as not knowing anything about the band I didn’t even know where I was going to be doing the photos. I just knew that as it was going to be done it was going to be done in the evening and in the dark. I’ve never tried doing a photo shoot in the dark before and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by the results, although far from ideal it looks like my boast of being able to take reasonable photos with my eyes closed is not completely unjustified.
